In the state of New York, vehicle safety and emissions inspections are required every 12 months. These include a variety of tests such as on-board diagnostics and smoke opacity.
Inspections must be done by a licensed facility. After completing inspection, you’ll receive a Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) stating whether the vehicle passed or failed. It will also detail any emissions-related repairs that need fixing.
