3 Enter your VIN (vehicle identification number), which is usually found on the bottom of the driver’s side of the windshield and/or the outer left base of the driver’s seat).
4 Select the type of registration that best describes your particular transaction.

5 Provide Owner details. (This refers to the buyer’s information.)
6 Supply the mailing address for shipment of your new title and registration. Conveniently, at eTags, we can ship to any US address, even if it is not listed as your current legal address.
7 Share your contact details: both a phone number and email address are required for optimum communication and ease.
8 On the summary page, confirm that all elements appear to be correct. If needed, you can click the “Edit” button to go back and make any necessary changes. If everything looks good here, you can proceed to the Checkout page.

And that’s the whole title and registration transfer shebang! Now, while these steps are pretty straightforward and easy to follow, you will need a bit of prep beforehand. Before you begin, here are a few documents you will need to have on hand in order to expedite the process:

Necessary Documents
1 The official certificate of title – this must be signed over by the seller and filled out accurately and completely by both seller and buyer.
2 A bill of sale – this should include information such as make, model, and year of the vehicle, selling price, date of sale, along with buyer and owner details.
3 Driver’s license – or other DMV-approved forms of ID
4 Odometer statement
5 A completed form MV-82
6 Proof of insurance – this must meet New York State minimum coverage standards. For current requirements, see here.
