The 2016 edition of the GHSA annual meeting will be hosted by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission between the 27 and 31 of August in downtown Seattle, Washington. As usual, niche companies, nonprofits, and government agencies will use this avenue to create awareness about the latest highway safety related products and services they have brought onboard in the past year.

The theme for this year’s meeting is Crossroads: The Intersection of Technology and Driver Behavior”. Given the increase in the number of fatalities from road crashes involving motor vehicles in 2015, the focus of all discussions will be on “how technological innovations can impact the way we drive now and in the future”. This is because driver behavior has been identified as the primary cause of road crashes in 94% of recorded cases last year.

A Recap of the 2015 Edition of the GHSA Annual Meeting

Hosted at the ONMI Nashville, Tennessee between August 29 and September 1 2015, last year’s event had the theme: “Drunk, Drugged & Distracted: Reaching High-Risk Drivers”. The focus was on steps that can be taken to reduce injuries and fatalities that result from crashes related to drunk, drugged and distracted driving. Participants were of the view that a lot more needs to be done in educating road users on the apparent dangers of risky and irresponsible driving behavior More importantly, the steps that can be  taken to cultivate what is considered to be safe driving behavior were outlined.

The usual big-time backers like AT&T with its flagship “Texting and Driving, It Can Wait” campaign, Ford Motors with their “Driving Skills” program, State Farm, and The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, are all throwing their weight behind this year’s event as well. They are known as the Diamond Sponsors, with many others, all graded according to their “level” of sponsorship.
