If you think your car does not need any changes or additions just because you made it through winter without significant complications, you better think twice.

While the warm weather makes driving more enjoyable and pleasant, you should ensure your vehicle is still fully-functional to avoid potential disruptions.

It may be that the cold season damaged certain components of your car that you need to fix right away.

Here are 5 car maintenance tips for spring which can help you understand your car better.

#1 Inspect your brakes and clean your car

The cold weather may not be the best ally to your car. By driving on icy and salty roads, your brakes may deteriorate and perform below the required standards.

Hence, pay attention to any unusual noises as they may be hidden clues that you need to identify before taking any further action.

What about cleaning? Exposing your car to grime, snow, and road salt through the entire season makes cleaning mandatory, especially in the undercarriage.

You definitely don’t want to see accumulated dirt ruining your car paint and finish.

#2 Get new wiper blades if required

As a responsible vehicle owner, you must ensure your car’s wipers are in optimal condition.

The new season may be pleasant but that doesn’t mean that you can eternally rely on the wipers that battled tough road conditions to enhance your visibility.

Neglecting your wipers may cause damages on your windows which could result in more maintenance costs you don’t want to incur to begin with.

#3 Replace your tires

This directly applies to drivers who replace their tires according to the season. If you switch to snow tires for the snow, it is then time to swap them back.

Snow tires were designed to handle warmer conditions, and they might wear down if you don’t replace promptly.

#4 Inspect your vehicle’s coolant level

Since we are driving to a new season, it is recommended that you set the engine at the right temperature.

If you are not familiar with this task, refer to your manual or visit your local auto repair shop for further guidance.

Do not assume that winter oil and summer oil offer the same results. The viscosity of each product performs differently based on weather conditions.

For that reason, pay attention to the fluids and avoid letting your engine reduce its life span.

#5 Check your windshield

Depending on where you live, your windshield may be vulnerable to chips and cracks from sand and rocks on the road.

Although you may not find this situation as important as any of the above-mentioned recommendations, any damage to your windshield can negatively affect the overall performance of airbags, seatbelts, roof stability, and your own safety in the event of an accident.

Therefore, if your windshield has a crack, have it fixed or replaced immediately.
