The purpose of a vehicle title is to provide a legal form that establishes a person or a business as the legal owner of a vehicle.

If you live in the state of Florida, here is a list of 20 vehicle title frequently asked questions (FAQs) every local must know before getting their new title.

#1 What’s vehicle title?

A vehicle title, or certificate of title, is a legal document that provides proof of ownership of a vehicle in Florida. It has current and accurate information about the vehicle.

Florida requires most vehicles to obtain a certificate of title excluding: mopeds, motorized bicycles, and trailers weighing less than 2000 pounds.

#2 When do people apply for a title?

In Florida, residents must apply for auto registration and title when:

  • Bringing a motor vehicle into the state.
  • Buying a new vehicle
  • Transferring vehicle ownership

#3 What are the steps to follow for registration and title?

To title and register your vehicle you need to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Whether you obtain a paper or electronic title, the seller must fill in the vehicle transfer section. Fill in the Application for Certificate of Title.
  • Present a proof of your auto insurance.
  • Submit a completed Florida Insurance Affidavit.
  • Payment for title transfer fees.

#4 Where can I apply for registration and title?

Both, buyer and seller, must go to the nearest tax collector’s office or license plate agencies to get a FLHSMV title transfer.

It’s a helpful way of getting a vehicle title without hassles. People located outside of the state can mail the form and fees to their local county office as well.

#5 What are the titles fees in Florida?

Here is a list of fees for vehicle title transfer in Florida:

  • Electronic Title (already registered in FL) – $75.25
  • Paper Title (already registered in FL) – $77.75
  • Lien on vehicles – $2 per lien
  • Out-of-state title transfer fee (electronic title) – $85.25
  • Out-of-state title transfer fee (paper title) – $87.75
  • New to FL vehicle fee – $225
  • Paper title mail and/or print fee – $2.50

  • Florida insurance policy
  • Certificate of insurance
  • Binder
  • A completed original affidavit signed by the insured driver

#7 What is a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)?

A VIN is a 17-character number that car manufacturers assign to every vehicle.

When a person applies for a title on a vehicle that was registered and titled in another state, the DMV looks at the VIN to verify that the vehicle is the same one as the one stated on the proof of ownership.

#8 Which vehicles are exempted from VIN verifications?

If you own any of the following vehicles, you are exempted from VIN verifications:

  • New vehicles licensed in Florida
  • Mobile homes
  • Trailers that weigh under 2,000 pounds
  • Travel trailers
  • Camp trailers
  • Truck campers
  • Fifth wheel recreation trailers

#9 What do I need to do to get a duplicate certificate of title?

The steps to get a title replacement are stated below:

Fill out an Application for Duplicate Title form.

Proof of identity

Lien satisfaction for lien free title, if applicable

Pay Florida title transfer fees (Question #5)

Vessel title fees – $6

#10 Where do people mail their title application form?

The title application form must be submitted to your nearest tax collector’s office to process your petition.

#11 What if I found my Florida vehicle title after getting a replacement?

If you find the car title that you had lost after getting a new Florida title replacement, contact your local DMV to keep record and follow their guidance.

It doesn’t matter if your old title has lost validation, it’s always advisable to report it to the Florida DMV.

#12 What’s an odometer reading disclosure?

An odometer reading disclosure is an instrument used for measuring the distance travelled by a vehicle:

  • It is used to certify the exact odometer reading at the time of sale.
  • Tracking indicator that determines whether mileage is increasing or exceeding its mechanical limits.
  • Prevents mileage tampering and sustain the actual sale value of any vehicle on sale.

#13 Where should I enter my odometer mileage reading?

You’ll need to enter the mileage on the Certificate of Title. You will see a section that covers odometer reading.

#14 Can a minor obtain a title for a vehicle?

Absolutely. A minor can own a motorized vehicle and there’s no legal age limit that could overturn it. The list below outlines the authorized people to sign the application for certificate of title for the minor (under 18 years old):

  • The minor
  • The minor’s natural guardian
  • The minor’s appointed guardian

SEE ALSO: Florida Registration Renewal Doesn’t Have to be a Painful Experience

#15 How do I properly sign over my vehicle title to another person?

Go to the Transfer of Title By Seller section, and complete the following:

  • Name and address of the buyer
  • Odometer Reading information
  • Selling price
  • Date of sale

Buyers and sellers both need to sign and hand print their name on the buyer/seller section.

#16 Is it legal to gift your vehicle to a family member?

People are authorized to gift their vehicle to a family member or any other non-family member with similar procedures to buying and selling.

Just make sure you complete one of the following documents to give proof that you gave or received the vehicle at no cost:

  • Bill of Sale
  • Affidavit

#17 Do all parties need to sign when there’s a joint ownership?

When a first-time transfer goes to a joint ownership, even if the joint ownership is specified by “and” or “or”, Florida requires the signatures of all parties on the application for a title.

#18 How do I get a vehicle title if my deceased spouse is listed on the title?

Since July 1, 2017, people could choose to receive a free title replacement when a deceased spouse is listed on a vehicle. Surviving spouses must fill in an application for surviving spouse title transfer form.

The completed form must be submitted to a motor vehicle service center with additional documents including: copy of death certificate, proof of identity, and marriage certificate if the name of the spouse is not detailed on the death certificate.

Fees may apply depending on your delivery preferences.

#19 What’s an electronic lien title?

An electronic lien title (ELT) is a program that runs across various US states, including the state of Florida, allowing local DMVs to electronically exchange lien and title information with lienholders without using paper titles.

#20 How do I remove a lien holder from a Florida title?

Once you’ve completed your car payments, your lienholder will electronically notify the Florida DMV that you are free of payments.

Since Florida handles vehicle titles electronically, you could keep your electronic title or request a paper title through your local DHSMV office.

I’m purchasing a car for my daughter who is 17 and has a valid Florida drivers license and covered under our insurance policy as a driver for any of our vehicles.. I understand the title can be in her name but can she register the car for new tags as well in her name?

Florida, unlike other states (NY for example), require that whomever is named on the title is also named on the registration. So, if the vehicle is titled to her name, then the registration will also need to be in her name. If you are both on the title, then you must both be on the registration. If your question about having her name on the title/registration stems from an insurer’s requirement, keep in mind that a car can be insured and operated to one person while owned/titled/registered by a different person, although you may find restrictions and major cost differences in that situation.

We have an RV with a current lien on it and want to sell it. The company with the Lien is an online Bank. If we pay it off will the online Bank (BMO). contact you or do we need to contact you and how can we get the title so we can transfer ownership to another. We are now in Virginia.

Every lender has a different process for what to do with a title once a lien is paid off. Confirm with your lender if they will automatically send you the title or, if the title is held electronically, would it remain so for you then to request to have the title printed and mailed to you. Once you have the title, you can sign over to the seller. While not required, you and the seller should both sign a Bill of Sale and each get a copy. Best of luck.

We have a close family friend that has passed. He left the majority of his estate to us including his vehicle. It currently has an electronic title (loan paid off) in his name alone. We have the bank document that stated the loan was paid off and the title is electronic. His cousin has been appointed the personal representative for the estate and she lives in OH. I was supposed to be the personal representative but could not be appointed as such because we live out of state and are not blood related. We live in TX and would like to bring the vehicle back to TX with us. How can we get a paper copy of the title and will we be able to get a temporary tag so we can legally drive it back to TX to register/title it here? Also, I am going to add it to my insurance, but it’s also in TX. Will I need to make the insurance specifically for FL in order to get a temp tag?

The cousin that was named the personal representative can request the electronic title be printed and mailed to him. He will need to provide a copy of his ID and the documents naming him personal representative. Once he has the title, he would sign as the seller and hand the title to you to sign as the buyer. In Florida, you can request temporary tags and they will accept the TX insurance. Call your insurer to have the vehicle added to your TX policy.

We are not familiar with the designation “Title of ownership, parking only” on a title but you may find more information in this FL DMV document about titles for recreational vehicles, like travel trailers. That said, since all/most travel trailers are more than 2,000 pounds, you should expect to receive a standard Florida title. While limited in the information provided, you can check the VIN on this FL DMV page to confirm that the title you are receiving from the seller is the most recent based on a matching title number and issue date. Lastly, outside of pursing legal methods when attempting to title and register a vehicle you purchased, there is no replacement for the official title, so we recommend doing your research and making sure you are being provided an official title document before transacting or completing the purchase. Best of luck.

Several months ago I gave my car to a family member as a gift. I gave him the paper title and filed a Bill of Sale and he agreed to register the car in his name. Unfortunately he never did that and he is refusing to do it now. Our relationship has broken down and I want nothing further to do with the car in any way. If my family member refuses to register the car in his name how can I legally remove my name from so that I am no longer liable for anything related to the car?

You need to “surrender” (dispose) your existing license plate to the DMV. This can be done in person or electronically by calling your local Tax Collector’s office with the tag #.

In Florida you don’t need a form, all you need to do is write GIFT as the sales price. Form 82002, if transferring a FL license plate to a family member that lives in the same household.

You can transfer the registration and tags to her if both your driver licenses have the same Florida address. If not, she will have to obtain new Florida tags and you can keep the tags currently on the vehicle to transfer them to another vehicle in the future. If her name is already on the insurance card, you can use the same policy. Your daughter can place an order to transfer the title and registration online by visiting eTags.com/app/fl.

I purchased a vehicle thru private party who just obtained title in his name on 8/19. He unfortunately had the incorrect mileage put on the title in error. After it was printed, he put a line thru it and provided the correct mileage. The DMV states they are unable to do anything with the title until they are able to see the image uploaded by the state which could be 30+ days wait, then we can bring in an OD statement and a Bill of Sale to process title. This seems extreme when the seller acknowledged he estimated the mileage and then hand-wrote the correct mileage, and is willing to complete an affidavit of error. How can we get this handled quicker so that we can register and drive the paid for vehicle?

yes it’s the only way to get a title correction within a title transfer transaction. It may be easier for the seller himself to go an agency and obtain a duplicate title with odometer correction.

When you purchase the vehicle, make sure to have the seller fill out his information on the title. Leave the buyer information blank. You’ll have to get the title to your brother where he will register the vehicle in New Jersey and send you the license plate. Once received, you can pop the license plate on the car and drive it up north!

Hello I recently purchased a new boat vessel from a dealership. The dealership already registered the boat & trailer under my name. But the dealer doesn’t want to give me my paperwork because he is trying to blackmail me into paying for repairs to the boat trailer which wasn’t in the agreement. The tag agency told me I couldn’t request copies of the registration or the new tags for the trailer because I had to get it from the dealer. I called the lender & told them what was happening & I’m waiting on a response from management.
Is there any other way to get my paperwork & trailer tag?

      Hi Javier,

As long as the dealership completed the tag and title work, you can certainly request a replacement of the tag. If the dealership hasn’t completed the tag work, you’ll need to work with them to get it completed. I hope this provides some clarity.

Having tolls on and existing plate will not hinder transferring them to the new vehicle. However he will not be able to register/renew the vehicle until those tolls have been paid. You can register online with eTags and we can help with providing info on tolls.

According to the DMV manual, NH titles all vehicles with a model of 2000 and never ,therefore, only the registration is required to transfer. And a Florida title will be issued.

I have a car that is titled in my name and I allowed my boyfriend to use the car for transportation! He took off to another county when we split up and he refused to give my car back! The police say that I can’t press charges for theft because I allowed him to use it! He does not have the title! I do and it’s in my name! I have since unregistered the tag and cancelled the insurance so the car is not legal to drive anymore hoping he would get pulled over and I can get my car back! In the state of Florida can someone who doesn’t have a title or registration because I have both and the vin matches my name when pulled up on dmv records! Can someone junk a car if the vin number doesn’t match the person who is trying to junk the car with no title or registration?

Hey there! I don’t have enough details to fully answer this question but typically if there’s a lien you likely cannot change ownership without going through your finance company. You’ll need to be vetted and approved for a loan first. Also, the insurance could probably be in your name with him listed as a driver in the household. All of this is speculation but I hope this helps!

If you know the address where the vehicle is, contact a “Repo” company in that local and have them pick up the car. They will want you to show proof that you are the legal owner. Be prepared to pay $400 or so for their services.

It has no weight, NO TITLE, NO REGISTRATION. We have no idea when or where it was last registered. How can we get the weight without getting pulled over and get a ticket for no tag. How can we obtain a registration or title??? We have a bill of sale and names of the last 2 owners. Neither owners ever registered it. Please help we just want to get a tag and in our names so we can start restoring it and traveling legally with the travel trailer.

Without a registration or title for the trailer, you will need to contact the DMV directly or visit a tag office to confirm what will be required to title and register the vehicle. The DMV/tag office may be able to search the history of the VIN and confirm what will be required. You can find a tag office in your county on this page or contact the DMV at (850) 617-2000.

You need to go to DMV and request the title or place an order on our etags website for print title. The state won’t automatically send it. The bank releases the title to the state and it’s the customer’s responsibility to obtain the title from the state if and when they need/want it.

Hello there, that depends on what the title says. Is it joint ownership with an “and” or and “or”. And, you would have to both sign over the title, with an or, only one person can do so.

Yes, you’re responsible for anything that happens involving the car such as accident, parking tickets, toll payments and so on. A title represents ownership, the title must be signed over to the new buyer. You can transfer ownership online here

The lien must be paid off before a transfer of ownership can be done. Once the lien has been satisfied, you can submit an order to transfer the title in your name by visiting etags online
To begin the reviewing process, we require an image of the original title, your driver’s license, the lien satisfaction letter and proof of insurance if you would want to also register the vehicle with a license plate.

We currently own two vehicles, both jointly titled with an “or.” I ‘m trading in both of these vehicles for a new one which I’m planning to title in my name only. I think that the insurance on the new vehicle would again be in my name only. Are you aware of any problems with this plan such as problems with use or sale of vehicle if I predecease my husband?

Do I have to keep insurance on this vehicle? Or can my friend get insurance on the vehicle since there is a payment agreement?

Yes, you will need to keep insurance on this vehicle because the title is still in your name. Once the title is transferred, you can discontinue the insurance coverage and the new owner will need to insure the vehicle.

In FL, a minor cannot technically own any property in his/her own name, you have to be at least 18 years old. Anything “owned” by the minor is actually the property of the legal guardian until the individual reaches 18 years old.

A close friend who recently passed was the sole owner of the family vehicle. I’m trying to assist her husband who is disabled and does not drive nor have a DL, keep the vehicle by registering and insuring it in his 15yr daughter’s name (she has a learner’s permit). This is their only means of transportation. Is this possible in Florida?

Our condolences for your loss and that of your friend’s family. A learner’s permit will not be accepted to register the vehicle but your friend’s surviving husband can register the car in his name using his passport booklet. He would need to provide a copy of the death certificate, his passport booklet, and Florida insurance in order to transfer the title to his name and register the car with Florida plates/registration. To avoid a DMV visit, your friend’s husband can place an order for a transfer of title with application for registration by visiting this page. He will be asked to mail in the existing Florida title that is still in your deceased friend’s name. If he does not have the title, he would need to go to the DMV to complete the transfer or he can order a duplicate title on this page which will then need to be mailed in to complete the transfer.

When you’re ready to sell the vehicle, you can just sign over the NJ title to the buyer. You must also provide the buyer with the original lien release letter as proof that the lien has been satisfied.

Since you are still making payments on the vehicle, you must first contact the lienholder to submit a request to include your son’s name as the second owner on the title. Once that’s been completed, you must go in person to your local tag agency to obtain a new registration that will include your son’s name as the co-owner.

Since you are the registered owner of the vehicle, it is required that you have insurance coverage that is in both your name and your daughter’s name. Also, as the registered owner, you will solely be held liable for any damages made on the vehicle. To remove yourself from any liability, you can submit an order to transfer the title and registration in your daughter’s name by visiting https://www.etags.com/app/fl#utm_source=blog_question To begin the process, we will require an image of the original title, your daughter’s driver license and proof of Florida liability insurance that is in her name.

I tried contacting them and got no luck so we’re gonna drive to their house tomorrow which a few hours away and see if they still live there .
If we can’t find the person to sign the affidavit am I out of a car or is there some other way to go around it ? I’ve had the car in my possession for over 9 months now just didn’t have the money to fix it and now register it .

Perhaps there are errors on the title, misspellings, mismatched vins, signatures in the wrong spot…The dealer may be able to answer your questions or the DMV. It’s also possible that that title is a duplicate one, if the original is still circulating and not voided, that can also be an issue.

Hey there, Owners joined by “or” indicates that either owner can take individual responsibility for the vehicle, and either owner may be present or may sign a bill of sale in order for the title to be transferred out of their names. Please note: When a title with two owners is joined by “or”, neither owner can remove their name leaving the title in the name of the other owner. The new owner must make application for title. I still hold a FL driver’s license and my car title is in FL, but my auto insurance is NC (just switched about a month and a half ago, I knew I’d be trading in my car soon so I didn’t switch it to NC, driver’s license is next on the to-do list). My car title is in my name and my dad’s name but he lives in the Middle East. I am trying to get a new car but since we are both on the title I can’t trade in my car without my dad signing the paperwork (they typically overnight it to people within the US and this really isn’t an option). Assuming that you have a Missouri title for the boat and trailer, you would need to complete the back of the title next to the ASSIGNMENT section as the Seller, and the new owner would need to complete that same section as the PURCHASER. Once both titles are completed, all that is required to complete the transfer in Florida is the original titles and the new owner’s driver license or passport. Unfortunately, we do not process boat transfers, but you can complete a transfer for the trailer by visiting https://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blogquestion

If your vehicle does not have a lien, then you can add your son’s name to the Florida title so he can register the vehicle in the State of Michigan. You can submit an order to do just that by visiting https://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blogquestion. If the vehicle does in fact has a lien, then you must contact the lienholder to add your son’s name on the title

Hi I applied for a replacement paper title to be mailed to me. I filled out the appropriate form, sent them the $$$. I just got the replacement title but it’s just a sheet of paper that says “State of Florida Application for Vehicle/Vessel Certificate of title”??? Is this the replacement? Or should I be expecting something else in the mail?

I’m moving from Florida for a new job in NY and am selling my car to my dad in Nebraska. I have an electronic title en route from the bank which will take a few days. My understanding is to sell the vehicle I need a paper title. To get that, I can request online which takes 7 to 10 business daysor I have to schedule an appt. with the local tax collector for a ‘fast title’ (only with Covid, that’s even slower as appointments aren’t available for another month). I can’t wait around for 2-3 weeks to get my title in the mail. It seems the only other option is to schedule the tax collector appt. in another month and fly back just for that. Is there anyway I can either 1) transfer title using my electronic title or 2) have my paper title mailed to my NY address?

eTags can assist you in printing your electronic title and mailing it to your address in NY. Please go to https://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blogquestion and choose replacement /duplicate title.
The assumption here that your vehicle is titled in Florida and that per your comment that “electronic title en route from the bank” there is no lien, you can place an order for an expedited (over-night) title. We can send to NY or NE but you will likely be asked for proof of residence for an address that differs from that on the ID you provide

Hi, I have a similar circumstance. I have a title on its way (7-10 business days), but need something sooner. Is it still possible to order a duplicate title through etags? I don’t want to slow down or create more confusion by ordering multiple tags.

My address is the same FL address that is registered/on license. What additional information would need to be gathered to create a duplicate title?

        Appreciate the guidance.

I purchased a car from a small dealership in Miami, FL and got a loan. I am not American and for all previous cars that I purchased, the bank took care of getting the title from the dealer before paying for the car. In this case, the bank is asking me for the title. I’ve tried contacting the dealer but it seems that the company doesn’t exist anymore and he disappeared. I am completely lost. Please help me!!

Contact the DMV to confirm if ownership was transferred from the dealership to you or the bank. The DMV can confirm and provide the title.

I have a class A motorhome that was registered in Maryland as a 2017, when we registered it in Florida they verified the year through the chassis VIN and it came up as a 2016; however, it was sold to us as a 2017 because that is the actual year the coach was produced. We were told that is how it should be registered not by the chassis VIN. We are now trying to sell the motorhome and need a corrected registration. How do we get a corrected registration?

If your title is currently in electronic status, the first step is to print your electronic title to obtain an official paper title. You can check the status of the title by visiting the following website, https://services.flhsmv.gov/MVCheckWeb/. If you DO have possession of the certificate of title, you may place an order on our website at http://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blogquestion and select “Transfer title/ Registration. you will be asked to submit images of your driver’s license, front and back of the title, proof of Florida insurance, proof of residency.

No, it is not necessary to have your most current address on the title in order to sell it. Just make sure it is the most recent title that was printed by the DMV in case you have ordered a replacement title in the past. We also recommend signing a bill of sale; one copy for you and one copy for the buyer. If the buyer takes their time in transferring the title once you sell it and the vehicle is then ticketed or towed, you have proof that you are no longer the owner and so not responsible for any fees. Please do not hesitate to recommend your buyer to use http://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blogquestion to transfer the title online if they will be re-registering it in Florida or even if they are driving and registering it up in Pennsylvania or out in California (etags.com)

You can contact the MA RMV about temp tags in order to drive the vehicle to Florida to have it registered and await your appointment with the DMV. Alternatively, you can place an order to transfer the title and apply for Florida plates online via http://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blogquestion. The process takes 10 to 20+ days right now because of the high volume of online transfer requests but we can ship the Florida plates directly to Massachusetts so that the vehicle can be driven.

You can get the title transfer for the car that is clean. You would have to provide her ID, her husband’s death certificate, and the will. As for the other vehicle, you would have to contact the loan company so that you could pay off the remaining balance and have the title- still in her late husband’s name-, mailed to you. After that, you could do a title transfer the same way.

You will need to send a CERTIFIED letter to the address for the company that has the lien… asking them to remove the lien on the title . Wait for it to come back to you. DO NOT OPEN THE LETTER, just bring it in to the local DMV or tax collectors office. you should be able to remove the lien and print the title then.

Well considering the vehicle is still in your dad’s name, he can provide some proof (maybe a bill of sale) that he sold the vehicle to and individual and was never titled and may be able to gain possession…. In some cases, owners will choose to sell vehicle to towing as settlement but that may not be something you’d want to do.

Take the title to the DMV along with the refinancing documents where you can request that a lien in the banks name be added. You will likely be required to convert the title from a paper title to an electronic title that will allow for faster filing of the lien. The DMV representative can provide further instruction of what you will be able to provide the bank to confirm the filing of the lien and secure the loan. Best of luck.

I bought an old car(1972) in Alabama 6 years ago. It was licensed and titled there. I bought in for the purpose of refurbishing it. I have lost the bill of sale and I don’t know how to contact the person I bought it from. How do I go about getting it titled in my name in Florida?

You’ll have to contact the Alabama DMV to explain your situation. They may be able to title it for you since it was first titled in that state.

Many states don’t require vehicle owners to obtain titles for their cars if over 20 years old. Is this true in Duval county?

According to our research, over 20 yrs would be considered a classic car. In FL, you’d need a title but no inspection. However depending on the exact age of the vehicle, in FL it may have a different designation. You’ll find more info on this blog, scroll down for FL info. You can also call our customer support to talk to an agent about your specific situation 1-888-633-5332

Our van has a Florida title and current tag through 2020. My husband went to AZ for business and expected to stay several months–long enough to think he would need to get an AZ title and plates. 6 weeks later, he is instead returning to Florida. Can we just put the FL tags back on the van as they are still “good” and is the title still active? Or do we need to go through the whole ordeal again?

If your husband has already transferred the title and registration to AZ, then you would need to do a FL Title Transfer & Registration. You can submit an order online at etags.com/app/fl and Select Moving To Florida as the Service Type.

No, the title is no longer good unless it us going to be sold to the person or company whose name is filled out in the Buyer/Purchaser section. To sell the boat to a different person or company, you will need to order a duplicate Florida title. Visit eTags.com/app/fl and choose the Lost/Replacement Title option to get a duplicate title without needing to go to the DMV.

You can have the Purchaser (new owner) use our services to transfer the title with etags. You, The Seller, would need to complete Form 82139 as the lienholder and give it to the new owner. Go to https://www.etags.com/app/fl?utm_source=blog&utm_term=%7Bkeyword%7D
select service type “Transfer Title/Registration” and the new owner would need to upload their driver license, the original title, Form 82139 and a Bill of Sale

I recently bought a car from a family friend. She signed over the paper title and when I went to register the vehicle at the dmv they informed me my license had been suspended. The car was intended for my girlfriend who is moving to Florida in two weeks. Am I able to sign the title over to her when she gets here so she can register it?

Since the title is already signed over from the family friend to you (that is, your name is written in on the title and you signed it confirming you’re taking ownership of the vehicle), you must complete the transfer of title and be issued a new title with your name on it. You can do this with eTags by choosing the Transfer Title/Registration option at etags.com/app/fl

You would only complete the title transfer, not the registration application since you have a suspension on your license. Once you have the Florida title issued in your name, you can sign it over to your girlfriend and she can then complete a title transfer and do the registration at the same time all in her name.

She could also do this with eTags (Transfer Title/Registration option). Until you clear the suspension on your license, you cannot complete and transaction involving issuing or transferring of a license plate /registration including renewal of a vehicle you may already have registered in your name.

You have to go to tag agency , and have them look at images from when it was initially registered. Typically, we are able to see Manufacture Statement of Origin submitted and it’ll show legit model year. You can also contact manufacture, provide vin # and see if they can provide a copy of manufacture statement of origin

If you still have a loan, typically that means ownership still belongs to lienholder not you, so for any changes you’d have to go through them. That may be a bank or a financial institution of some sort.

If you’re on the loan, you name has to be on the title. In order to remove yourself from it, you need to refinance the vehicle so it’s only . on that person’s name.

Hello Jason. We could help you register/title your vehicle according to your needs. We offer an online portal that will help you process your FL registration within minutes.

In your case, you’ll need to submit an Affidavit signed by the seller to carry on with the registration process. If you don’t have an affidavit, we could provide you one but it has to be signed by the seller.

Once you submit the signed affidavit, you’ll need to to let us know whether you want an electronic title or paper. Otherwise you’ll get a registration document by default on the mail.
