How many times have you been exposed to the intense sunlight while on the road?

The glare could be way too strong to keep looking straight and that could even lead you to a car crash if not acting cautiously

If fact, driving in bright sunlight causes visual illusions on drivers who may end up making mistakes owing to the lack of visibility.

A recent study in a Canadian hospital has found that life-threatening crash is 16% higher during bright sunlight than any other weather condition.

That said, you’ll need to take the right steps to be safe while driving in direct sunlight, otherwise you could be putting yourself at a huge risk.

Here’re 6 tips to help you combat sun glare driving without having to make the same mistakes.

Wear your favorite pair of sunglasses

Not only will you look cool wearing a great pair of sunglasses, but you will also be significantly protected from the bright sunrays that affect your vision.

Did we mention that wearing your sunglasses keeps you safe from the effects of UV rays? This accessory could definitely put you in a better place.

Pick your favorite sunglasses and try to look stylish while stay safe from sun glare driving.

Where’s your sun visor?

Know that every vehicle is equipped with sun visors. You could position your visor in a way that doesn’t affect your visibility while on the road.

Either the sunlight comes through the front windshield, or from the sides, make sure your visors block the light coming in appropriately.

At the end of the day, your car already has the tools to help you handle sun glare so just be cautious.

Tinted car windows always help against sun glare driving

Go to our trusted auto repair store and have your windows tinted. Look at prices since you can find some affordable ones.

The procedure consists on adding a plastic film over your windows. This film is strong enough to block a great percentage of sunrays so your visibility is not affected.

However, always make sure you are current with the window tinting regulation set by your state. You don’t want to be paying a fine for overly darkened windows.

Avoid driving in times where sunlight is at its highest

Sometimes Sunlight Affects Drivers During Rush Hours

Typically, sunlight affects drivers during peak hours in which roads are crowded and the amount of congestion does very little to overcome it.

Sometimes the best way to avoid the effects of sunlight on your visibility is not to drive.

Unless you need to get early to that important appointment or meeting, take your time and let the sun rise to an optimal level.

Mind your distance between your car and the car in the front while sun glare driving

When your visibility is affected there’s no reason to get closer to other vehicles, otherwise you won’t have enough time to react in the event of an unexpected stop.

Never put yourself at risk. Keep a prudent distance between your car and the other car in front.

At this point, you are not the only one facing visibility issues but other drivers too.

Get off the road if the sunlight blocks your entire vision

You could be able to tell if the sunlight is affecting your ability to stay safe while driving.

Your eyes start hurting and you cannot even keep your eyes open to drive safely.

If that ever happens to you, get off the road and find a safe spot to park your vehicle. Try to wait for a reasonable time until the sun changes its position.

Once you feel better about getting back on the road, watch out for other drivers and never forget that your safety comes first.
