A good advice is to make sure your teen is prepared and confident about driving his/her first vehicle.

For that reason, here are 5 teen driving tips that always work. Helping teenagers stay focused in a world full of distractions is the ultimate goal.

Road rules and signs

Learning about rules and signs is a good method to be safe behind the wheel. There are many ways your teen could access that information including: driving manuals, driving school, or even from you.

As long as teenagers get a solid understanding about the different signs on a highway and other key safety features inside a vehicle, he will be ready to move on to the next step of his learning scheme.

Going through the basics is the best way to ensure your teen knows what he needs to do before hitting the road.

Road experience

Get more experience with real-life scenarios in which you need to make decisions while on the road.

A typical driver knows how to handle certain scenarios including: congestion or parking between two cars.

Educate your teen about the dangers on the road and show him how to handle different type of road scenarios.

A good advice is to teach him how to use the car features to communicate with other drivers during overly-congested situations. Experience is the key to success and that also applies to driving.

It’s all about confidence

The more experience behind the wheel your teen gets, the more confident he will be about driving unsupervised. At times, new drivers panic at the very first complication and that’s a normal reaction.

Let your teen get familiarized with the vehicle and everything that surrounds it while on the road. Be a supervisor and point out signs and other road items that could help your teen drive responsibly.

Create a checklist of things your teen should learn

The following items are key topics that every teen must know before hitting the road:

  • Controlling the vehicle from braking on time to changing lanes
  • Peripheral view
  • Handling difficult roads
  • Weather conditions
  • Driving responsibly
  • Basic driving rules
  • Safety features
  • Watching out for pedestrians
  • Driving with passengers

Get familiarized with a vehicle

Apart from driving a vehicle, there are other aspects of a car that every teen needs to know so they don’t start calling other people for help.

Teaching your teen things like: handling tires, getting fuel, and/or knowing who to contact in the event of an emergency is a must.

Your teen does not have to be a car mechanic but knowing how to handle the operational features of a vehicle helps a lot. It also reduces anxiety since many teens rely on their parents to handle car repairs and other technical aspects.

Overall, the process of learning how to drive requires a lot of patience. Your teen may be anxious and excited about driving but always try to give the best driving advice. It’s all about practice and confidence.

Ive heard that our driving and written drivers test is a piece of cake compared to other countries. Also we get our licenses at a younger age. Maybe we should makes our tests more difficult. It’s not that difficult to turn on the turn signal or check traffic before merging at the proper speed onto the interstate. Somehow many people choose to ignore these simple driving habits that make the roads safer for everyone. I say, more practice and perfect driving test before passing. Zero room for error.

Conveniently, people could register at driving school for more practice and knowledge. The more we learn about driving defensively, the better for everyone.
