Today we’re going to get into the details of how to obtain new plates and registration in the state of Maryland. The question being:
Can eTags help me register my vehicle in Maryland? You bet we can! And here’s how:
If you are already in possession of a vehicle that is titled to you in the state of Maryland – meaning, your name is on the front of the Maryland certificate of title as the legal owner – you can quickly and easily get that vehicle registered.
Head over to our home page, and select Maryland as your state from our drop-down menu. Next, choose New Registration from the list of our services. You will then be asked to specify which kind of registration you require. For new plates and registration, choose this option from our list.
**In case you’re curious, your other choices in this area will be to transfer Maryland tags that are already in your name to a vehicle that is already titled in your name, or to transfer a title to your name or to convert a title from out of state to a local title along with registering your vehicle.**
But let’s get back to the task at hand: new registration. Choose this from our menu, and you will be directed to the next page in order to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Once the MVA (Motor Vehicle Association) identifies your vehicle based on your VIN, you will be prompted to confirm the information that is on record for the VIN you entered. If the details here are correct, you can proceed to the next step.
Here you will be asked for your Contact Information. Both your email address and phone number are required.
After providing these two forms of communication, you will need to provide the first and last name of the Legal Owner of the vehicle.
The last piece of information to input will be your Shipping Address. This is the location where you want to receive your new plates and should be current and accurate. You will have a chance to confirm your address – especially if you’ve entered it in a slightly different way than what the USPS has on file.
Now you will be taken to your Summary Page where you will see your contact info, the make and model of your vehicle, your shipping address, and a breakdown of fees that make up the total cost of your transaction. At this point, you will also have the ability to add another vehicle to this order, but to do so, you must be selecting the same service. Meaning, if you want to obtain new plates for two different cars, you can do this now. Otherwise, for any other services, you’d need to place a separate order.
If everything looks good here, you can move through to your Checkout Page. This is where you enter your payment information as well as have the opportunity to read our terms and conditions and consent to making an electronic signature.
Keep in mind that you will need to provide a valid Driver’s License and proof of your current Maryland Automobile Insurance once your order has been accepted, so it’s a good idea to have both of these documents standing by.
For those folks eager to get a head start, you can check out the state-required form VR-005 that will need to be filled out in order to get those new tags!
And that’s it…a few simple steps, and you’re on your way to new plates in the state of Maryland. Of course, if at any time during this process you need a hand, please feel free to reach out to us for assistance. Because as always, at eTags, we’re here to help!
