Can I get an extension to renew my tags. I live in Baltimore MD. We are going through financial issues and cannot pay for my renewal right now.

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, MVA doesn’t offer any extensions. You won’t incur any more fees after it’s expired however you do run the risk of being pulled over by the police for an expired tag. This will inevitably cost you more in the end. I’m sorry there’s not better news. Good luck!

We see that you placed an order with us in 2020 but you do not have a recent order with eTags. If you renewed your registration directly with the MVA, there may be delays in mail delivery and you may still soon receive it. If you have urgency to have your registration in hand, you may place an order on eTags.com for a replacement registration which would arrive in 3 to 5 business days.

Once you pass inspection, the owner is given paperwork and the inspection station sends a digital copy to the MVA. Now you can go into the Mva/Tag and Title company to get 1 or 2yr registration. You can also register online with eTags

I have a temporary registration that will expire at the end of December. I was finally able to complete the repairs to get my car to pass the state inspection and it did. Can I renew my registration online, or do I have to go to the local MVA.

When I tried to renew the registration I saw this – Hold Title – NMVTIS Review – I am not sure what it means, and I want to register for 2 years. Not sure how to proceed at this point.

I bought a used vehicle and the temp plates expired on 02 Sept. I called the dealer and they explained do to COVID that I could drive with the expired temp plate until the registration and plates come from my home state of Arkansas. Is this correct that I can continue to drive on the expired temp plate? If so for how long?

The vehicle should be re-inspected due to non-use over the years. Maryland requires every car registered in the State to pass an emissions. At some point during your two-year registration period, you’ll receive a notice from the MVA requiring you to have your vehicle emissions inspected.

If you, the customer, has kept insurance the entire time you had the tags then there will be no fee when you turn them. If you had a lapse in insurance during that time then the MVA will let you know any fees you will owe.

So the vehicle inspection station we used is being really ridiculous, failed the car for a dented AC condenser. Car runs good, no codes and no warning lights. The inspector said to pull it out as much as we could, but how do we know how far is enough. When looking at the inspection checklist online this is not listed as an inspection item, he has it listed in the remarks column. Can we take the car to another inspection station? Where do we file a complaint about an inspection station?

The Inspection Station are an independent company that works with the MVA. They set their own standards and policies. So, any issues with the station will have to be taken up with them.

The dealer told me the MVA will mail the hard tags to the dealership and they will call me when it comes in. I called the dealership a month after and they said things are just slow cause of Covid-19. But another month has gone by and my temp tags are about to expire. What do I do?

Please contact the dealership that you purchased the vehicle from, and inform them of the issue. Covid-19 has impacted the timetable on daily services. But the dealership is the only place I know who can solve this issue.

You can fill out a change of address form online with the MVA. And once you do that, then all the addresses will automatically change on the other documents. If you wanted new documents with the new address, then you would have to pay for duplicates after they change the address.

    Hi,

Have a car that hasn’t been driven since 2018. Last emissions were done in May 2017 – and the plates expired in May 2019.

Are there late fees associated with not getting emissions checked for a year if I want to start driving the car again?

You would have to visit a full service MVA to get everything updated and an extension to get the emissions done, to get the car back on the road. All fees will be told to you by the Mva and emissions locations.

During normal times (pre-pandeic), you would have to vanity plates into a MVA and trade them for regular plates when they renew. But due to the current situation, we would advise to call the MVA and inquire on how to go about it.

My Maryland month sticker is starting to peel off. I’ve been trying to find a way to get a replacement online due to the lockdown and I’ve found that a month sticker is free. However, every time I apply for a replacement sticker on the MVA website, it keeps charging me. Is the month sticker free or not and where is the application for it. For clarification, I already have the new 2-year registration sticker, I’m just looking for the month. Thank you!

Usually how it works is if you needed a month sticker you would be able to just go into a MVA and get one for free. But due to the current situation, they don’t have that option. Only time the MVA would add the month sticker is if you ordered replacement tags from them. Maybe try calling the MVA or sending an email to customer service to see what you can do.

You can try going to the MVA website and do a “VEIP Extension.” But only if you didn’t do an extension with it already. After you get a VEIP Extension you can renew your tags for the car and have the new stickers shipped to you in Arizona. You would need to wait at least a week after doing the VEIP Extension on the MVA Website before you can renew with etags.

Now, 4 months later hes gotten a registration renewal notice with the fee listed as $1297.00! I have no idea what its for or why in the world it’s so high. Usually the cost has to do with the “Weight” and “Type” of vehicle it is. The heavier the vehicle, the more the registration usually is for the customer. Also, the cost breakdown should be shown on the renewal/reg. If you believe that the price is too high or off then call the MVA to get a better explanation of it.

Hi Angela, we understand it may not be an option but, if you can avoid driving the car, that would be the best option since you can be ticketed for not having the most current plate sticker even if it is up to date. That being said, any officer who runs your plate will be able to see that you are renewed and the temporary copy is supporting proof. Call or email our support team if you have any other questions.

Now that it has passed inspection and I’ve submitted the paperwork to the dealer roughly how long will that take, as my temp tags expire August 20th. As they appear to be processing your tags, you need to make sure they have the right information to avoid further delays for information you could have already updated.

    Hello,
    I have 2 questions:

    1) My registration expires 6/19, does that mean I have to get the new ones before June or before the end of June?

    2) I renewed my registrations online and I did not get a temporary registration to print, is that because my current registration doesn’t expire until 6/19 or should I contact MDOT?

    Thanks.

Hello Julius. If your registration expires by 6/19, you are required to renew it by the end of the month. Now, you won’t get a temporary registration since your current registration hasn’t expired yet.

I was told that MD no longer requires a month sticker? That can’t be right?

Hello Carl. Maryland no longer requires month stickers but annual ones.

I received 30 day temp tags and registration to get my car inspected in September. The 30 days was up in October of this year. I’ve come to find out I need a lot more work done mechanically before it will pass inspection. So I had to travel back and forth to work. This am I was stopped and arrested for the expired temp tags and they also confiscated my tags and towed my car. Is there ANY WAY I can apply for another temp registration in Maryland for the 30 days? Bc I cant drive it to get it inspected w/o tags and I cant take it off the tow yard w/o tags? What do I do?

Hello Stephanie. You will need to contact the DMV to check the status of your vehicle and cover the fines for driving with an expired registration. You will need to obtain a new registration in order to have your vehicle completely inspected.

I have MVA fees because my car was sitting with the tags an no insurance. I wanted to get another car from a dealership. Will I be able to, and will I be able to get the tags for it before paying my MVA fees?

Hello Corey. It depends on the status of your license. You will need to contact your local MVA agency for further information.

Is the expiration at the beginning or end of the month, ie 11/19 is this good until 12/19?

Your vehicle registration expires every one or two years fat the end of the exp.month, but you’ll get a renewal notice 2 months before the expiration date. You can renew your registration online here by selecting “renew vehicle registration” https://www.etags.com/app/md?utm_source=blog%20comment&utm_term=%7Bkeyword%7D

I need to renew my tags but I have flag fees and unpaid tickets if I pay my tickets is there going to be a way for the MVA to be informed since they are closed? Or can I just pay the flag fees without paying the tickets.

You will have to pay all the tickets first. Then allow 3-7 days for it to update in the MVA system usually. Then pay the Flags and renew at the same time. But only through the MVA website. If you want to use etags.com/app/md, then all Flags and tickets have to be paid first and cleared before we can renew.

I got 30 day temporary tags and registration which expired on the 21st. I went through inspection, but failed. There is still alot of work to be done to the car. Since Maryland doesn’t give an extension on temp tags, is there a way to get that waivered? Also, how to get permanent tags once the temp tags expire?

hello there, there is no way that the inspection can be waived. Once the temp has expired you can no longer drive the vehicle until the tags are updated to full tags with a Maryland State inspected passed. You would to park the car until you can get it to pass. Once you’ve passed inspection, you would then take the inspection to a full service MVA or Tag and Title location to get the updated stickers. Only the stickers change. The hard tags and number remain the same.

We moved out of state and traded the vehicle in Arch’s no longer own it. My husband is Dolores but went round and round with the insurance division a few months ago after we received a threatening letter about not having insurance on the vehicle. The insurance case was closed after a few emails but apparently your system doesn’t update across the board as we now have received a registration renewal notice for the same vehicle. Can we ignore it since we don’t own the vehicle any longer?

Yes, ignore any notice about renewal if you traded in the vehicle.
