[UPDATED March 2023] In 2023, finding cheaper car insurance is even more crucial than when these first auto insurance tips were given. Today, thanks to less car inventory, drivers are forced to buy more expensive vehicles, some even from the luxury category. And a higher-priced car means higher auto insurance premium since claims would be more costly to cover. Inflation and higher healthcare costs are also part of the 2023 hike in insurance cost. And let’s not forget the past few hurricanes and flash floods that affect auto insurance claims, thus your premium too.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get cheap car insurance, you are about to discover some of the hidden tricks and tips for saving money on auto insurance that most drivers don’t know about. In this guide, we will show you how to get discounts on car insurance by making some changes in your life and in your coverage, how to compare insurance quotes, and how to use a car insurance calculator.

We will even provide a link where you can get free car insurance quotes from multiple carriers. If you are in search of discount car insurance, here are some steps you can take.

How to Get Discounts on Car Insurance

You may control more than you think when it comes to getting discounts on car insurance.

Improve your credit rating. Insurance carriers will often use your credit rating in determining your insurance premiums.

If you are serious about getting discount auto insurance quotes, check your credit for errors and clean up any outstanding issues. Get on a mission to pay your bills in a timely matter to protect your rating.

Drive safely and avoid citations. Your driving record has a major impact on the rates you will pay.

If you want to know how to get cheap car insurance rates, strive for safe driving discounts. If you get a citation, see if taking an online driver’s training course can expunge that citation.

Take a defensive driving course. Many insurance companies will provide discounts to drivers who take simple, online defensive driving or driver’s training courses.

Many of these courses are available online. In many cases, the auto insurance rates discounts will exceed the costs of the course in a single year.

Minimize coverage. Don’t pay for coverage you may not need. If you drive an older car, it may not be prudent to carry full coverage.

If you are paying for rental car coverage, it may not be necessary if you have another vehicle in the household you could use.

Increase your deductibles. Increasing your deductible from $250 to $500 or from $500 to $1000 can significantly impact the discounts you may be available for.

Use a car insurance calculator to see the impact higher deductibles will have on your premiums.

If you’re thinking of buying a used vehicle, the rule of thumb is that car insurance costs about 5% less every year your wheels age.

When thinking about what kind of car to get, know that vans have the lowest auto insurance premium.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to get a discount on your insurance coverage if your vehicle has an anti-theft device.

Getting free car insurance quotes online is easy so there’s no reason not to get the discounts available.

I always thought car insurance was based mainly on your age, car you drive and location you live in. It’s good to know being a safe driver does indeed affect your rates. Being a safe driver I definitely feel that is the most important thing to determine your rate. Thanks for the information.

This is really useful. Lately insurance has become really expensive and difficult to pay. Does anyone have any other advice or recommendations to make this purchase more effective?

Here’s some info found online : While income can’t be considered when calculating your rates, the title that you hold can. What you do on a regular basis can affect how likely you are to be exposed to an accident and how likely you are to file a claim. for example, nurses, teachers, and pilots carry less risk, while doctors, photographers and athletes carry more.

I have been interested in defensive driving courses, I plan to take these courses, but I don’t know how to validate that, how to get the papers or certificates to present to insurance.

We’re not sure you live, but you can research online for distracted driving courses next to your area or do it online. Just want to make sure the courses are approved by your state. At the end of your course you should be able to get a certificate which can then be presented to your insurance. Your insurance agent may also be able to tell you which company to use and what type of paperwork thy’ll need.

You would have to get a title transfer within 30 days of purchase to avoid penalties. You can go to etags.com/app/fl and select Title Transfer.

Given that discounts are important to so many people nowadays and there are so many programs, would we be able to stack up multiple discounts to get the greatest effect? What’s your thoughts on doing the proper research on my own before making an insurance purchase?

Hello Ziggy. Not every insurance company offers the same policies and discounts. It makes sense to make your own research by exploring each company site, call the agent for specific questions, and check on your profile to identify information which could potentially help you get a discount. Good luck!

Hello Joel. Regardless of your auto insurance policy, you need to title your car to demonstrate that you are the owner of your vehicle. When it comes to auto insurance, companies apply different screening procedures so you are advised to compare their rates based on your budget and expectations. Here’s a link that teaches what to pay attention to for lower insurance premiums.

Hello Jody. To register a vehicle in Florida, your daughter will need to get a FL driver’s license which is a requirement along with a valid FL insurance, and VIN inspection to process your order. In Florida, you can register and title your vehicle at once. Good luck.

Hello Carly. When it comes to auto insurance, it’s hard to determine what exactly influences insurance providers to increase their rates. It could be external factors such as the risk of getting involved in a car accident owing to accident rates in a specific area, or internal factors including driving records or individual background.

Hey Elvis. Another great question. Difficult to definitively answer this one as well. Would depend on a wide range of variables including driving record/accident history, vehicle type, zip code where you live, and number of people/family members on your policy.

Terrific tips here – everything has gotten so expensive here in Florida – we pay so much more for insurance than we used to. So every little trick helps. Would love to know even more, if anyone else has any other advice!
