Florida’s DMV – the FLHSMV – offers Sunshine State residents over one hundred different license plate designs and themes to choose from.
This is in addition to the conventional tag that you might receive automatically when registering a vehicle for the first time.
Meaning, instead of going for the standard Florida plate, you have the option to choose from over one hundred different designs, all approved and made available by the FLHSMV. Design choices include sports teams, educational institutions, health and safety awareness, environmental education and preservation, law enforcement support, animal rescue and research, among many more. In other words, there’s a lid for every pot here – if you’ve got a hobby (golf) or a cause (manatees) or a passion (feeding the hungry), chances are, there’s a Specialty Plate for you!
But the real icing on this cake is that there’s more to the Specialty Plate that giving Floridians a way to express themselves or support something they believe in. We like to say that:
The Specialty Plate is more than just a pretty face.
Because behind each theme and design lies a cause that is directly supported by the purchase of that particular tag. So when you opt for a Specialty Plate, you are in fact contributing to the charity or foundation behind it. 
Let’s take today’s Spotlight Feature as an example: The Gadsden Plate.
When you purchase the Gadsden Specialty Plate, the proceeds of the purchase are then directed to the Florida Veterans Foundation. This foundation is on a mission to “serve, support, and advocate for Florida veterans.” Their aim is to help improve the quality of life of both veterans and their families.
