New Year’s Road Safety Tips
1. Give your vehicle a thorough once-over before taking it out for a drive. Be sure that the brakes, lights, and wipers are working in top condition.
2. If you plan on drinking alcohol, designate a reliable driver who will commit to staying sober and ready to drive the entire night.
3. If you must drive over the holiday, stay alert and aware behind the wheel. This means:
- Not using your cell phone for texts or calls
- Obeying speed limits and traffic signs and signals
- Maintaining a safe distance between you and the car in front of you

4. Be sure that you and any passengers are wearing a seatbelt.
5. Driving according to the weather. Using caution in snow, windshield wipers in rain, and headlights in low light.
6. Allow any aggressive drivers to pass while you remain calm.
7. Look for debris on the road that might not normally be there, such as firework remnants or general party gear that may have been left behind.
8. It’s not only other vehicles or drivers you should look out for: keep an eye out for inebriated pedestrians who may wander off sidewalks and into the road.
9. If you come across a dangerous driver who seems to be impaired, report it. Your call could save lives.
10 Slow down. Nothing is worth rushing for and potentially having an accident. If necessary, give yourself extra travel time to get to your destination so as to avoid stress.
11. Keep in mind that the early hours of the morning can be just as tenuous as night driving. It’s important to stay alert and careful if you plan to drive on New Year’s morning as well.

12. Consider either skipping the booze altogether. While this might not sound appealing to everyone, it’s a good way to ensure safe driving after the party.
13. If you find yourself unable to operate a vehicle and you don’t have a designated driver, do yourself and those around you the ultimate kindness: order a taxi or an uber. Even if you’re on the edge of sobriety, stay safe and have someone else drive. Your life could depend on it.
And there you have them, friends: the top tips for enjoying a secure holiday across this country’s roads, highways, and streets. From our family here at eTags, we sincerely wish you and your loved ones a safe and Happy New Year. And we look forward to helping you with all your title and tag needs in 2026.
