Truck Driver’s Rant Will Make You Think Twice Before Texting & Driving

Texting and driving accidents have been occurring with an alarming frequency, as it’s become more commonplace for teens and even adults to be constantly glued to their devices.

This is something that truck driver James Urbanski knows well, as he frequently sees teens texting and driving. After nearly having his own life taken by an irresponsible driver, the truck driver shared an earnest texting and driving speech with his audience through Facebook.

“All you people I see going down the interstate on your phone, barely looking up — almost hitting the back of people — sitting at stoplights not knowing when the light turns green — listen up,” begins James Urbanski as he outlines the dangers of texting and driving and the importance of remaining vigilant on the road.

When texting, drivers acquire tunnel vision. Though they may feel as though they are paying attention to the road, they truly aren’t. Even if they themselves aren’t engaging in any unsafe driving (if they are operating their vehicle slowly), they will still operate their vehicle erratically which makes it impossible for other drivers such as Urbanski to anticipate their movements.

Though Urbanski himself points out that he’s “not a guy that likes to make a video of himself,” it’s become increasingly important to stress how dangerous texting while driving can be. Many teens habitually text and drive, and because they have not gotten into an accident yet, they can assume that it is safe. With mobile devices becoming so prevalent in many aspects of daily life, texting and driving is becoming normalized throughout many peer groups.

It only takes a single texting and driving accident to cost a life.

Texting and driving can be just as dangerous as driving while drunk, especially with teens texting while driving becoming steadily more common.

Both adults and teens need to understand the dangers of texting while driving and that it can wait until they’ve safely reached their destination. Not only are they putting themselves at risk, they are also putting other people on the road at risk.

Don’t text and drive!

Hello Rick. Nobody is free of making mistakes. The more cautious we drive, the better for everyone. Everyone should drive safely, including truck drivers.
