By remaining connected to your vehicle, you are not only learning the basic norms of driving but also enhancing your safety.

According to the National Safety Council, the United States has gone through 3 straight years of at least 40,000 road fatalities between 2016 and 2018.

For that reason, it is imperative to unearth driving secrets that could help you improve your driving skills while simultaneously enhancing you safety.

If you are novice driver or know any other person who is in the process of getting a driver’s license, use the following driving secrets as a guide for the future.

#1 Driving is your primary task

Once you get behind the wheel, you should keep in mind that your primary task is to drive from A to B.

The reason why you use a car is to make your life easier in terms of transportation.

Forget about carrying out other tasks that could remove your attention from the road. Your safety banks on your ability to stay focused.

#2 Concentration means everything

Driving a car is an activity that requires knowledge but, more importantly, concentration. If you’ve just obtained your driver’s license, you must be aware of the dangers of driving.

Accidents could happen within seconds, and there is very little you could do to remediate an action once you stop focusing on your driving.

Of course, there are multiple factors that could compromise your safety such as adverse road conditions or other erratic drivers.

But the more attention you pay to the road and your surroundings, the better!

#3 Have utter respect for the law

Did you know that traffic laws exist for a reason? Imagine a world without laws. Everything would be chaos and nobody would be able to fix it.

Our expectations would be meaningless and the same could be said about others who expect you to drive responsibly.

Having said that, you must follow the rules and avoid getting in trouble with the law. For example, you could choose a designated driver whenever you go out with friends for drinks.

#4 Common sense is never underrated

Use your common sense to determine the courses of action you need to take prior, during, or after hitting the road.

If adverse weather conditions are affecting your area, then consider slowing down for your own safety.

By reducing your speed limit during challenging conditions such as snowy or wet roads, you are not only demonstrating superior driving skills but also applying your common sense.

#5 Stick to routes that you are familiar with

Reduce the chances of getting involved in a car accident by focusing on areas that you are already familiar with.

Novice drivers tend to be less confident about driving in unexplored areas owing to the lack of expertise.

Once you get enough confidence and practice, be prepared to switch to alternate routes without losing your mind.

#6 Leave your emotions behind

If another driver cuts you off or does not let you merge even when you have the right of way, remain calm by taking a deep breathe.

Remember that every secret, including this one, refers you back to secret #1: Once you are sitting behind the wheel, driving is your primary task.

Motorists who failed to adjust their temper end up giving up to road rage, which leads to other habits that are not merely aggressive, but also dangerous.

Driving is a challenging task that cannot be underestimated, nor disregarded. If you know any other driving secret, please let us know in the comments below.
