Well, enough people have mentioned this sleek car make and model around us lately, and we took it as a sign to feature this wow-factor EV here on the blog. Because in case you were wondering, it is, indeed, a car. But not just any car…
The Lucid Air Sapphire just might be the fastest luxury electric vehicle available on the market today. And while it ranks right at the top of Car and Driver’s list of Best Luxury Electric Vehicles, it’s rather quite a nice surprise to see that its price tag, however, does not come in at the most expensive.
So, let’s talk about this California-made supercar: What makes it so special?
Well, to begin with, the Air Sapphire boasts a whopping 512-mile driving range, if you opt for the Grand Touring edition. That’s one charge fueling a whole lot of miles. We’re talking about the potential to drive straight from New York State all the way to Ohio on a single charge. Not even a gas tank can claim that sort of range.
Next, Lucid has declared that the Air Sapphire is the most energy efficient vehicle on the road today. This claim comes from the proposed 146 MPGe rating coming from the EPA. And if the question crosses your mind about charging time, the Lucid is meant to generate 300 miles of range on a 21-minute charge with fast charging.
Okay, but what about its performance, you wonder. What about the horsepower and what of the acceleration times? Well, it depends on the specific model you opt for, of course. Were you to choose the basic Pure model, you’d pay around $71,400 for 430 horsepower and 4.3-second 0-60 speed time. However, if you’re in the mood to splurge, the Air Sapphire wows with a 1234 horsepower! And this extra zoom means you’ve got and acceleration time of 0-60 in 2.1 seconds. That’s up there with some of the fastest vehicles on the road, ever.
For reference, the Tesla Model S Plaid makes its mark of 0-60 at 2.1 seconds, while Rimac Nevera has 0-60 at 2.4, and the astounding Aspark Owl 0-60 in under 2 seconds. (Next feature on this speed demon, maybe?!)
We’re also looking at both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive abilities, room for four passengers (and obviously the driver) and a pretty generous 22 cubic feet cargo capacity. This zippy EV comes with touchscreen infotainment, voice recognition, and the ability to learn driver preferences when it comes to music and temperature settings.
When it comes to safety features, Lucid delivers.
And while self-driving capability is on the horizon for the future, some of its current offerings are:
- Forward collision warning
- Automated emergency braking
- Blind spot monitoring
- Rear cross traffic alert
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane centering feature
As far as warranties go, Lucid offers buyers the following coverage:
- Limited warranty for 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty for 8 years or 100,000
- Complimentary maintenance for 2 years or 24,000
All of which seem to be on par with the warranty offered by a certain other EV manufacturing giant that begins with a T and ends with an ESLA. (wink, wink)
And there you have the rundown of this uber-fast, luxury Electric Vehicle. We hope this has satisfied some basic curiosity, and if you happen to test drive or buy one of these slick cars, do let us know.
