Renewing Your Vehicle Registration AND a Happy Birthday?

  • March 21, 2024
19524 views

Updated April 2023: As a child, when your birthday rolled around you thought of cake, balloons and presents. But as you get a bit older, the happiness that builds up as your birthday nears turns into dread. You start looking at your birthday as a reminder that you are one year older. Oh, and that your car registration is up for renewal (what joy!). Birthdays shouldn’t be spent in long lines at the DMV waiting or sulking over the fact that your youth is slowly being drained by Father Time. You should still be thinking about cake, balloons and presents!

Use eTags© to Quickly Complete Your DMV Service. Renewals, Title Transfers and More, All Online!

Let etags.com solve your registration renewal woes fast and easy so that you go back to enjoying a birthday like the good ol’ days.

How Often Do You Have to Renew a Florida Vehicle Registration?

The registration period for a car in Florida runs from the listed owner’s birthday to midnight of their birthday on the following year. For most typical vehicle owners in Florida, an extended vehicle registration of two years is available, but requires a double payment of the fees. There are some exceptions where a registration must be completed annually. For example, if the vehicle has a restricted plate. Depending on the county, you may or may not get notice regarding renewing your vehicles registration prior to your birthday.

With etags.com now offering registration renewal service in Florida, you’ll have full-control and automation online each year for your vehicle renewal. You can auto-renew if there are no changes to your information, or simply login and update your profile with any new information and renew instantly. Multiple cars, multiple names, business names – we got you covered.

What Do You Need in Order to Renew Your Registration in Florida?

When visiting your local DMV, proof of vehicle insurance is required when renewing your Florida automobile registration. But why waste half or even a whole day at the DMV for a couple of decals and a piece of paper? On our website, having your insurance policy number and the insurance company’s name is sufficient to complete your registration renewal. Additionally, your cars plate number, vehicle owner information, and a credit card or debit card to process the payment is all that is needed.

Do You Get New Plates When You Renew Your Registration?

Florida only requires a car owner to change the plates every 10 years. Your vehicle registration renewal simply involves new stickers and a registration certificate. Go to etags.com and in just a few minutes, you can renew your registration and receive your sticker and registration certificate in the mail. A copy of the registration certificate will be emailed in secured PDF format and your hard copy will be shipped about 300% faster than the DMV. If you’re driving with expired tags, you can simply print out your PDF as a temporary copy to place in your car until your new plate decal and renewed registration have arrived.

You never want to drive around with an expired registration; if you’re pulled over by law enforcement you can get a fine of up to $500 not to mention jail time. Fines and penalties depend on how long you’ve been driving around without renewing your license plate and sticker. An expired registration of 6 months or less is considered a traffic infraction

Spending hours in line, waiting for your number to be called at the DMV is no way to spend your birthday. Or any day for that matter! Try etags.com today and make your life easier. Plus, with a friendly, attentive customer support team to help with you any issues that may bar you from renewing your registration, you’ll turn a dreaded day into an awesome day again.

My birthday is in July my tags say 2023 am I expired?

If you renewed your registration on, after, or just before July 2023, then your registration may be renewed but you never received the new sticker. You may stil be cited for not having an up-to-date sticker but you wouldn’t be cited for an expired registration in that case. You would want to order a replacement sticker sticker. If you did not renew your registration in 2023, then yes, your registration is expired and you should renew as soon as possible. eTags provides temporary digital copies of the registration which may be useful if/when you need immediate proof that your registration is expired. Or you should walk into your local DMV or tag office as soon as possible to renew your registration. Best of luck.

You must renew on the day of, not the month. You’ll get a small fine for expired registration.

In Florida, you can renew a registration up to three months in advance of the registration expiration. You can also do it online with eTags

My birthday is in March, and I have the option of buying a car between now and then. Should I wait until closer or after my birthday to avoid paying for registration now (for less than 2 months) then having to renew? I hear that if I buy within 30 days of my birthday in Florida that the registration will be dated through March 2023. Please help!

Your registration is already within the renewal period. If you buy a new car now, you will be paying registration renewal fees with the plate transfer same as if you waited until March. If you are buying from a dealership, they would take care of the transferring the registration and providing or mailing to you a 2023 plate sticker. Keep a look out for “new plate fees” on the billing statement which are sometime erroneously charged even when you state you are transferring a plate. If you buy a car from a private sale, you would pay the registration renewal fees when you get the title and plate transferred. You may place an order on etags to title and register a vehicle you buy from a private sale.

If I buy a car and register it this month (July), will I have to register it again in September?

It’s hard to say, because we do not know where you live. But if you are in the renewal period, you will most likely pay the registration renewal for next year when registering the vehicle in your name .

Hello Grace. You don’t need to worry about it. Though we recommend to change it now so as to avoid losing it in the future.

Hello Millie. I am afraid your sticker has already expired on January 1st this year. Normally, the DMV sets a renewal date on your birthday date. You could still renew your registration by calling us at 1-800-633-5332 or send us an email at support@eTags.com. We are here to help you complete this procedure on time.

I have never owned a car before and am thinking of buying my first car, probably a Jeep. My limited car experience means I know very little about titles and registrations. I appreciate you explaining the registration process to me.

I have heard about all the new ways of getting your vehicle registered, and the sticker renewal. I like the new ideas like, online, over the phone, auto shops. I would rather do that then wait in like all day.
