Okay, we know that not everyone is a techie, per say, but if you own, lease, or rent a car, there is one gadget you most likely cannot go without. What’s that? The ubiquitous phone charger. Okay, maybe fewer and fewer people remember what it’s like to be on the road without a phone, but these days, a smartphone is about as common as a nose. And in case your car didn’t come equipped with a charging port, an external charger is a must.

Today we are going to explore some of the top smartphone (and laptop) chargers, both wired and wireless, on the market. Ready? Here we go…
Wired Chargers.
For standard, plug-in, wired chargers, the one that kept popping up with the most frequency was the Nektek 45W Type C Car Charger. This little guy gets fitted into the cigarette lighter in your console, and offers two USB types: one Type A and one Type C. For a port this size (about the size of a thumb) you can charge two devices simultaneously and fast-charging speeds. As long as your phone or tablet or laptop is able to connect to 45W charging, you’re good to go. Oh, and we hear there might be a sale (Discounts on $19.99? Yes please!) on these currently over here.
The next on the list is also a wired charging port. The Scosche PowerVolt PD40 (CPDCC40) offers dual charging ports like the Nektek, but this little workhorse gives drivers and passengers two USB-C slots, which, honestly, is what most handheld devices are working with these days, right? And many laptops as well. So in case you’re certain that all your chargeables use the USB-C, this one could be the right one for you. The price point is the same, by the by – about $20.
Onto the fancy wireless chargers, friends!
Wireless Chargers.
Truthfully, everywhere we looked, people were loving the iOttie, so here we go with the iOttie Auto Sense Wireless Car Charger. Okay, aside from the fast charging ability of this little apparatus, and aside from the fact that you can mount it on your dashboard or an air vent…aside from all that, here’s the coolest feature, we think. When you go to connect your phone to the device, the mount has a sensor (hence the Auto Sense part of the name) that automatically embrace your phone and close around it securely. Like a tech hug, right? And because the iOttie isn’t possessive, you can take back your phone at any time by just tapping on the side release buttons. How fun is that? While a bit pricier than its wired counterparts, this one is compatible for both Android and iPhone, and comes with enough bells and whistles to make it worth the investment.
Last on our list of charger faves is the ESR Qi2 Wireless Charger with CryoBoost. It just sounds good, right? Well, it’s a MagSafe-compatible charger made only for iPhones or those with official MagSafe cases, ESR magnetic cases, or ESR Universal Rings. This means that it’s sort of unlikely that Android users will get to benefit from this charger’s coolest feature – literally, coolest… Just like the name says, this dash or vent-mounted power-giver has a built-in cooling system. So when you pull your phone from its rev-up, you don’t risk burning your fingers from all that superfast charging. In fact, ESR claims that it keeps temps down by about 10 degrees lower than other chargers. Frosty! And it’s on sale at the moment for $42.99 down from $59.99 right here.
