What is a Florida Specialty License Plate?
Florida Specialty License Plates are a collection of over one hundred different registration tags that each have a unique design. These plates are offered through the FLHSMV’s Specialty Plate program, and are available in addition to the standard tags that are issued to Florida vehicle owners upon initial registration.
What makes the Florida Specialty Plates unique?
Well, for one, every one of these plates has own signature theme designed by its own artist or team; no two plates are alike. Second, we like to say that these tags are more than just a pretty face. Why? Because behind each Specialty Plate lies a worthy cause. Each theme is connected to a charity, foundation, or organization that is supported by the plate. 
How does a Florida Specialty Plate support its associated charity?
It’s simple: when you choose to buy a Specialty Plate, the proceeds from that purchase are directed to corresponding cause. It might be the world’s easiest way of giving back!
Can you give an example of how the purchase of a Specialty Plate can help a cause?
We’d love to. Take today’s spotlight plate, the Support Autism tag. Each time one of these plates is purchased, the revenue goes towards funding the relevant organizations that serve folks living with autism and their families, as well as educate communities on the subject. Some of the services these organizations provide are:
- Early intervention
- Speech/language therapy
- Special respite services
- After-school and summer programs
- Residential services
Can I order a Florida Specialty Plate online?
You sure can. It’s easy with eTags. And we’re going to walk you through the process:
- Head over to eTags.com and select Florida as your state from our pop-up menu.
- Choose the Specialty Plate option that best suits you. Please note that you can opt to upgrade to these cool plates at any time during your registration. You do not have to wait until your renewal is up. Also, you have the option of personalizing your Specialty Plate as well. Choice, choices…
- Specify which service you need:
- Renewal
- Renewal + Specialty Plate
- Just Specialty (and/or personalized) Plate
- Enter your vehicle info. You’ll need the following:
- Vehicle type
- License plate number
- Vehicle make
- Vehicle year
- Provide your contact details: both an email address and phone number will be required.
- Now the fun part: Choose your design!
- Opt in for personalization or proceed without it.
- Fill in the legal owner’s full name, whether it is an individual or company.
- Supply your auto insurance provider and policy number.
- Enter your shipping address. You may be asked to confirm these details.
- This is your summary page: you can review your order and be sure all details look correct and edit them if necessary. You also have the chance to add a second Specialty Plate for another vehicle if you like by clicking Add Another Vehicle. If everything is good to go, go ahead and click Checkout.
- You’ve reached your last step! Take a look at our terms and conditions, sign your name electronically, enter your payment details, and click Place Order.
