California’s Registration Expiration Law
The California DMV will notify vehicle owners of any upcoming registration expiration dates. The notice can arrive via email or USPS, and is sent out anywhere from 60 to 90 days before the deadline, giving plenty of time to facilitate renewal. If for some reason you do not receive your notice, it’s important to note that you will still be held responsible for renewing on time. It’s a good idea to keep track of your registration period just to stay on the safe side.
Why Renewing Vehicle Registration on Time is Crucial
Take heed, friends: there is no grace period for expired vehicle registrations in California. Meaning, if you do not renew on time (by your designated expiration date), you will likely end up paying penalty fees. And those fees increase with each day that passes past your due date.
