Prior to the start of the summer break, Lauren Slaybaugh – a Sickles High School student in Tampa, Florida – sits behind the wheel to improve her teen driver education and skills.<\/p>\n

Her mentors has given her continuous feedback on her performance, which has helped her a lot so far.\u00a0Slaybaugh commented:<\/p>\n

They correct you and they help you perform it better next time.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Having a supervisor as a passenger has helped her drive along without complications but, soon, she’ll have to drive without supervision and demonstrate improvement. She added:<\/p>\n

When you’re driving you need to be aware of everything that’s constantly happening around you.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Focusing on teen driver education<\/h2>\n

Interestingly, teenagers are more vulnerable to driving distractions such as mobile phones and other devices.<\/p>\n

That said, they are advised on following defensive driving practices during the school break, as they are more likely to get involved in a fatal crash.<\/p>\n

Matt Nasworthy, AAA<\/a> representative, explained:<\/p>\n

They are going to have more free time to be driving, usually accompanied by their friends, which also adds to the dangers.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is supported by the increasing number accidents that takes place during summer vacation, where the chances of a deadly outcome rises to 16%.<\/p>\n

Tammy Overcash, a driving instructor, reinforces her role as an educator to talk openly about it:<\/p>\n

If I do find a cell phone in the car, they are finished driving for the day and they do have to pick [the phone] up after school in the main office.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In addition, speeding is also another relevant topic on the agenda, considering that, in some cases, teenagers fail to follow safe practices such as; buckling up.<\/p>\n

Nasworthy also centered her opinions on this matter by pointing out the role of parenting when it comes to road safety.<\/p>\n

when it comes to speed, when it comes to distraction, when it comes to using your seatbelt.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Slaybaugh also mentioned that her parents give her appropriate guidance and concluded by showing gratitude about the support she receives from home.<\/p>\n

I’m glad that they do because otherwise, I could be in some serious trouble.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
