According to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center<\/a>, there’s a 12.1% increase in pedestrian fatalities between 2006 and 2015.<\/p>\n

It’s a very distressing situation but drivers are expected to take full responsibility for their actions and follow the right steps to handle the accident with full disposition.<\/p>\n

From calling your auto insurer to taking pictures of the incident, it is your duty to make sure the whole process does not get even more complicated.<\/p>\n

Here’s a list of things you should do (and shouldn’t do) when it comes to accidents involving pedestrians.<\/p>\n

Do stop your vehicle<\/h2>\n

If you hit a pedestrian while driving your vehicle, regardless of who is at fault<\/a>, you must stop your vehicle. The injured pedestrian may need your help calling an ambulance for immediate aid.<\/p>\n

Investigation is required and it doesn’t matter who is at fault or the nature of the accident. That’s something you should always keep in mind.<\/p>\n

Do provide the pedestrian aid<\/h2>\n

There’s nothing more alarming than seeing a pedestrian laying on the road<\/a> because of a accident. Even if it wasn’t your fault, you should check for injuries.<\/p>\n

It could be a minor or critical thing, but try to be there for that person. If the injured pedestrian needs immediate medical attention, call 911 to report the accident.<\/p>\n

Do call the police<\/h2>\n

Call the police right away. The police must be there to take statements from all the parties involved and speak to any other witness to gather more information.<\/p>\n
