So today we\u2019re going to give you a rundown of some new traffic laws in effect for the year 2026 in Connecticut. Ready?<\/p>\n

New Connecticut Traffic Laws for 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. In place since January of this year, the Work Zone Safety <\/strong><\/a> law enforces stricter guidelines and penalties for infractions committed in work zones. This includes speeding, distracted driving, reckless driving, or driving under the influence. \u00a0<\/strong>Meant to increase the safety of workers as well as all souls on the road, fines are likely to be $150 or more. \"Road<\/li>\n
  2. Coming into practice on October 1, 2026, the Left Lane Law <\/strong><\/a>, whose slogan is, \u201cPass Left. Drive Right,\u201d states that drivers may not be in the left lane with the exception of when they are in the following situations:\n
      \n
    1. Passing a slower vehicle<\/li>\n
    2. Avoiding an obstruction in the road<\/li>\n
    3. Getting ready to exit via a left ramp<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      With fines for violations starting at $88 and moving up to $142, the purpose of this new law is to help thin out road congestion and contribute to overall road safety.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. In accordance with the Constitution State\u2019s Vision Zero<\/strong><\/a> program, Connecticut is installing both red-light and speed cameras along many roadways. The point of the cameras is, of course, to help the state achieve its goal of zero injuries and fatalities related to transportation. \"Traffic<\/li>\n
      2. For folks with a learner\u2019s permit, aiming to obtain a Connecticut driver\u2019s license, anyone choosing to complete the mandatory eight-hour course online will now be required to keep their computer camera on for the duration. This also coincides with an permissible increase in driving school fees: once capped at $150, schools may now charge up to $200 for the in-person course. The reason for this new law is to confirm student attendance and attention.<\/li>\n
      3. More a development than a law, per se, Connecticut has introduced a new license plate, \u201cThe Borinqueneers,<\/a><\/strong>\u201d\u00a0 which is named after the largely Puerto Rican 65th<\/sup> Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army that served in World War I, II, and Korea. These tags work to serve as a tribute to and mark of appreciation for the Puerto Rican soldiers who served their country. The proceeds from the sale of the plate (a range of $60 to $156) will go towards supporting the Hispanic American Veterans of Connecticut, Inc in their efforts to make bi-lingual services and assistance available to veterans and armed forces members. \"Borinqueneers\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
