Today\u2019s post is for our New York friends.<\/h2>\n

We know it can sometimes be overwhelming to keep up with all the goings-on when it comes to traffic, driving, and administrative laws. So we thought we\u2019d do a quick update on the new road rules in the state of New York for 2025.\u00a0 Ready? Here goes:\"Speed<\/p>\n

Reduced Speed Limits<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following a law passed in NY back in 2024 called \u201cSammy\u2019s Law,\u201d \u2013 which allowed New York City to lower speed limits to 20MPH on individual streets \u2013 this new set of speed reductions aims to become even stricter. The Department of Transportation (DOT) now allows for limits to be set as low as 10MPH on roads that may be in the process of undergoing redesigns in the name of safety-related issues.<\/p>\n

Overall, the speed reductions will affect around 250 different locations throughout the city by the end of 2025, and will largely be focused on safety priorities such as school zones.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Charter Bus Seat Belt Law<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beginning in April of this year, all passengers between the ages of 8 and 16 riding charter buses will be required to wear provided seat belts.\u00a0 This law comes as a result of a tragic bus accident last year in 2024 which affected a group of high school band members from Long Island\u2019s Farmingdale High School.<\/p>\n

The aim of the seatbelt law is create a safer and more secure environment for all charter bus passengers from now on.\u00a0 Violations of this seatbelt enforcement are set to receive a fine of $50.\"Charter<\/p>\n

Congestion Pricing<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Yorkers are already familiar with the fees promised on city driving in New York City.\u00a0 The recently implemented congestion pricing for 2025 works as follows: any vehicle entering Manhattan south of and including 60th<\/sup> street will incur a base toll of $9.\u00a0 The exact toll prices will depend on the type of vehicle, time of day, method of payment used, and whether crossing credits can be applied.<\/p>\n

Congestion pricing will not, however, affect vehicles driving solely on West Street, West Side Highway, the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, or the FDR Drive.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the congestion pricing is, of course, meant to reduce vehicle congestion, limit the number of cars and trucks occupying the streets of New York City, thereby making driving, walking, and cycling a freer and less hectic experience.\u00a0 The congestion fees and revenue are also set to support City transit projects such as improving subway extensions, increasing accessibility, building and maintaining elevators, upgrading bus and train systems, modernizing signals, and acquiring new rail cars.<\/p>\n

Car Lease Improvements<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are one of the many folks in the state of New York who are leasing a vehicle or plan to turn in your leased vehicle this year, you\u2019re in luck!\u00a0 In the past, New York State allowed for leasing companies to charge customers administrative, clerical, handling, and\/or turn-in fees.<\/p>\n

The new legislation in this regard will prohibit vehicle lessors from charging \u201cunnecessary fees\u201d to lessees.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In effect, this law will see turn-in fees a thing of the past.\u00a0 Meaning, customers will no longer be hit with unexpected lease termination costs filed under uses such as administrative, handling, or clerical services.<\/p>\n

This law is part of a greater bill aimed at protecting New Yorkers from hidden and superfluous costs issued by parties such as health clubs, telemarketers, and restaurant inspection grades.\"Signing<\/p>\n
