The other day in the eTags break room we were having a chat, and wondering, generally, how many things in the great big world are super fun and also super helpful.\u00a0 Like, we know that riding a roller coaster is the ultimate rad time for some folks, while a good long game of chess is the trick for others.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s a night of Netflix or a grand trip around the world for you.\u00a0 As far as we\u2019re concerned, if it makes you happy and doesn\u2019t hurt anyone or anything in the process, you do you!<\/p>\n

But what about a step up from that? What if the thing you enjoyed actually helped people? What if buying that sculpture meant that a few hungry mouths could be fed?\u00a0 What if it were possible to get yourself those new sneakers or that new glittery dress and know that a decent fraction of the price tag would, in turn, be going to help clean the ocean, rescue kittens, or afford underprivileged kids with access to education and extra-curricular programs?<\/p>\n

You\u2019d jump at the opportunity, right?\u00a0 We would.\u00a0 Or at least that was the consensus during our downtime pow-wow the other day.\u00a0 And the best part of our unanimous decision was that we have proof that this win-win is possible.\u00a0 Not only do we have proof, but it\u2019s actually part of What We Do. The way First Tee accomplishes this mission is by integrating golf and life skills into a comprehensive curriculum, fashioning learning experiences for the kids to build inner strength, confidence, and resilience.<\/p>\n

Okay, is anyone else pretending they\u2019re not misty-eyed now?\u00a0 We\u2019re picturing these young people \u2013 from age seven all the way up to teen years – learning to swing a club and believe in themselves at the same time, and it\u2019s beyond endearing.<\/p>\n

First Tee offers many types of programs, both within schools and across communities. They are so focused and thorough in their outreach and education, that they even go so far as to offer a Colleges Scholarship Program.
