{"id":2433,"date":"2017-08-15T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T13:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.etags.com\/blog\/?p=2433"},"modified":"2026-01-08T17:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T17:08:08","slug":"scariest-bridge-in-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.etags.com\/blog\/scariest-bridge-in-america\/","title":{"rendered":"Would You Drive Across the Scariest Bridge In America?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Searching for your next adrenaline inducing fear-factor endeavor?<br \/>\nAmerica has a \u201cscariest bridge,\u201d and the 4.3-mile long thoroughfare has been freaking out drivers with a fear of heights since its&#8217; 1952 construction. 12 people have driven off it since 1964, 10 of those accidents being fatal.<\/p>\n<h2>The bridge in question is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.<\/h2>\n<p>Anchored in Annapolis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etags.com\/app\/md\/renewal\/\">Maryland<\/a> &#8211; approximately 30 miles east of Baltimore and Washington D.C. &#8211; the western edge of &#8216;<strong>America&#8217;s Scariest Bridge<\/strong>&#8216; has gained notoriety as somewhat of a legend due to it&#8217;s narrow corridor and low railing.<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t unheard of to be afraid of the Bay Bridge, either. Its&#8217; reputation is certainly deserved. Back in February, a truck exploded through its low railing, killing the 18-wheeler\u2019s driver.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for those with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Acrophobia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">acrophobia<\/a>, the only way around the bridge is to take a 150-mile trip to Maryland\u2019s other side.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being a normal part of many drivers&#8217; daily commutes, the bridge is so scary that many continue to pursue extreme measures to avoid driving themselves. A shuttle service even exists, owned by Steve Eskew, to shuttle passengers across for a small fee while their car is transported behind the caravan. Upon reaching <strong>Chesapeak Bay Bridge&#8217;s<\/strong> opposite side, vehicles are returned to their drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, some who\u2019re shuttled can\u2019t even bare the sight of the bridge\u2019s rails or ocean beyond. They sit with jackets covering their heads, hiding from the experience. That\u2019s right: America&#8217;s Scariest Bridge invokes such intense fear that they have to close off their senses. Others who can\u2019t stand the Bay Bridge\u2019s construction design have asked medical professionals to travel with them, with counselors and psychologists among the most-favored practitioners\/travel companions.<\/p>\n<p>The Chesapeake Bay Bridge isn&#8217;t going anywhere, nor is its design expected to change any time soon.<\/p>\n<h3>Have you ever drive across this scary bridge in Maryland?<\/h3>\n<p>What has your experience been like?
