According to data company Experian, new vehicle registrations for electric vehicles <\/a>are up 95% in the U.S. during the first four months of 2021. This on the heels, of nearly 4 million EVs sold so far\u2014almost double the sales of 2020. California seems to attract the most car tags for EVs, accounting for 38% of all electric vehicle tags. Florida and Texas followed with most EV registrations with 7.2% and 5.9%.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In the first three months of 2021, Americans registered new EVs at three times the rate of other types of new cars<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Washington, D.C. is most convenient for EV drivers<\/span><\/strong>
Since there are lot more EVs in the Golden State, there are also more public charging stations. Of the more than 42,000 publicly accessible charging stations in the U.S. (as of May 25, 2021) containing over 102,000 individual outlets, 30.8% are in California, according to Pew Research Center. But it’s Washington D.C. that takes the title for “most convenient place in the U.S. to drive an EV.” The 237 charging stations in the federal district have 630 outlets. That’s one for every 487 privately owned cars and trucks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

EV buyers are more likely to buy another electric vehicle when buying new<\/span><\/strong>
Electric vehicle buyers are more likely to buy another one when buying a new vehicle. In fact, among luxury car brands, 65% of EV owners bought another electric vehicle in 2018. By 2020, that number was at 71.8%. In mainstream car brands, 53.9% bought another EV in 2018, jumping an extra 10% by 2020.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The U.S. represents only about 17% of the world\u2019s total stock of 10.2 million EVs, according to IEA data<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Tesla saw a decline in EV sales on three vehicles in 2021 so far<\/span><\/strong>
Only the Tesla Model Y increased in sales, going from 2,260 units in 2020 to 53,102 units in the first few months of 2021. The Model 3 Tesla is down 12% in sales, the Model S is down 63% and the Model X is down 75%. But despite the decrease in sales for the first quarter of this year, Tesla still has two of the best-selling EVs in America: Model Y and Model 3.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Tesla Model S and X are #9 and #10 on the top 10 list EVs in the U.S.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

71% of new electric vehicles registered <\/a>were Teslas. Americans obtained license plates for more than 53,000 new Model Y and over 35,000 Model 3 sedans. Chevrolet Bolt EV sold close to 14,000 units from January to April 2021, while the Ford Mustang Mach-E sold 6,104. The Porsche Taycan and Hyundai Kona sold about 3,000 units each.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

China has 44% of all the EVs in the world, while Europe has 31%<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

EVs in Europe<\/span><\/strong> and the rest of the world<\/span><\/strong>
About three-quarters of all cars sold in Norway last year and over half of those sold in Iceland were electric. In 10 other European countries, between a tenth and a third of all new-car sales were electric in 2020. According to Forbes, the best-selling EV in Europe is the four-door Volkswagen Up. The VW has 127 miles of range and can be recharged at a maximum speed of 40kW. The Volkswagen Up is sold for 21,421 euros or $25,552. Last year, Renault’s Zoe was the best-selling electric car in Europe.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Brazil, India, South Africa, Indonesia, and Malaysia all have less than 0.1% EVs on their roads. While Canada has more than double the amount of electric vehicles than the U.S. Only 1% of Australia’s and Thailand’s vehicles are electric.

19 electric vehicle for sale in U.S<\/span><\/strong>
There were 19 EVs for sale in America in the first quarter of 2021, plus many more hybrids and plug-in hybrids.\u00a0By the end of April, Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup had a sales increase of 191% compared to last year. The Kona Electric had over three times the customers than the Ioniq this year, probably since it has 259 miles of range versus Ioniq\u2019s 170.
