In-person renewal is required for the following vehicles that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Require proof of insurance, a tax certificate, or another document<\/li>\n<li>Have ambulance, New York Press (NYP), government, or official registration<\/li>\n<li>Weigh over 55,000 lbs.<\/li>\n<li>Are for hire, such as taxis, buses, and livery vehicles<\/li>\n<li>Have an apportioned registration issued under the International Registration Plan (IRP)<\/li>\n<li>Are used as rental cars<\/li>\n<li>Have been modified or \u201cstretched\u201d to accommodate more passengers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, if you\u2019re eligible for a no-fee registration, you will need to complete your renewal in-person at the DMV.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration Renewal by Mail<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have your New York renewal notice, you will need to send the bottom part of your registration notice (MV-3 or OP-3) via mail to the DMV. The appropriate mailing address will be on your registration renewal notice.
