{"id":12464,"date":"2019-07-10T20:37:36","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T20:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.etags.com\/blog\/?p=12464"},"modified":"2026-01-12T14:56:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T14:56:14","slug":"woman-jailed-after-firing-a-gun-at-a-missouri-dmv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.etags.com\/blog\/woman-jailed-after-firing-a-gun-at-a-missouri-dmv\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman Jailed After Firing A Gun At A Missouri DMV"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Vanessa Richey, a Missouri resident, was arrested on Tuesday after firing a gun outside the Department of Motor Vehicles office when being asked to leave the premises.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The 34-year-old woman became furious about the long waiting times at the Parkville DMV agency, which is located near the intersection of 64<sup>th<\/sup> st. and Cosby Road in Kansas City.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The incident occurred around 11:20 AM and people around her reported she was screaming: \u201cWait time is ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Other witnesses also commented that the woman was speaking loud and acting obnoxious after arguing with DMV clerks for over 10 minutes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Naturally, those witnesses became annoyed about the impact that such reaction would have on their waiting time.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>And that\u2019s when members of the staff warned her about calling the cops for further actions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In return, the woman loudly demanded them not to call the cops, because that would delay their services even more.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>So then she was asked to leave the building. Out of a sudden, she said that she was going for her gun.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Woman arrested for firing twice at a Missouri DMV<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-7232553\/Missouri-woman-enraged-ridiculous-lines-DMV-fired-gun-outside.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Patricia Zick (opens in a new tab)\">Patricia Zick<\/a> commented that she followed the troublemaker outside to take note of her license plate details and to make sure she didn\u2019t hurt anyone around.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t afraid for myself as much as all the other people. The lady with the 3-year-old next to me and there was a baby in there. She was belligerent from the moment she entered and there were children in there and elderly.\u201d Patricia Zick said.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Then she also added:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>Something was wrong, I don&#8217;t know what it is \u2014 drugs, mental or whatever \u2014 but she just insisted on getting taken care of immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>After walking outside, Zick mentioned that Richey appeared to be searching for something in her bag.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>That bag bothered me. Her sloppy purse and her attitude and her dressing&#8230; I mean it was just a package deal that there could be something in there. &#8216;As soon as I was right behind her, she stopped and started fumbling in her person and said: &#8220;I&#8217;ll take care of this&#8221;. Zick said.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Zick noticed the woman firing into the air while other witnesses tried to get back inside the DMV agency but doors were locked.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Luckily, Zick found shelter at a dentist office located nearby, wondering whether Richey was calling other people for back up.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>I think it could&#8217;ve been a warning. It could&#8217;ve been the beginning. I don`t know you can&#8217;t judge,\u201d Zick said.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Major Erik Holland in conjunction with the Plate County Sheriff\u2019s Office reported that the woman fired twice with a handgun.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Law enforcement arrived at the scene of the incident at approx. 11:30 AM. Darin Snapp, an officer, mentioned that nobody was injured.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The officer also reported that an off-duty officer heard the gunshot and immediately approached the woman and asked her to put the gun down.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This version was also supported by other witnesses who saw two officers responding by taking the shooter to the ground and removing her gun, right after she was attempting to get into the car.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Officers arrived just in time<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Afterwards, Richey was hustled into an ambulance to be checked at a hospital for precaution.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Major Holland added:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>We&#8217;re just getting started investigating. We don`t know motive or mental state at this time.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Right after medical inspections, Richey was arrested at Platte County Detention Center but they are still waiting for a final decision on her case.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Snapp concluded:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p>She just wasn&#8217;t very happy about the wait at the DMV.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It goes without saying that walk-ins and in-person appointments at the DMV can be lengthy and stressful.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But such reactions put other visitors at major risk. And shouldn\u2019t be permitted.
