Essentially, this is a document produced by the state that serves as proof of ownership of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve bought a car you will want to have your name put on the title right away. And, if you\u2019ve sold a car you will want to remove your name and replace it with the name of the new owner.<\/p>\n<p>If the vehicle in question is more than 20 years old, there are no title transfer requirements in the State of Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>This guide will explain how to transfer a title in Connecticut.<\/p>\n<h3>CT Title Transfer If You Have Bought a Car<\/h3>\n<p>After you have purchased a car, you will need to get to a local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)\u00a0office\u00a0as soon as possible to do a title transfer and register the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>If you bought the vehicle from a dealership, they will likely take care of the paperwork and submit it to the DMV for you. If you have a loan on the vehicle, the new title will have the\u00a0lien holders\u00a0name on it and will be mailed to the\u00a0lien holder, but if you own the vehicle outright, the title will be sent to you.<\/p>\n<p>If you bought the vehicle through a private party sale, you will have to be sure to gather the proper documents before you head to the DMV.<\/p>\n<p>The Connecticut title transfer requirements include a Bill of Sale with the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The name and address of both the new owner and the seller.<\/li>\n<li>The Vehicle Identification Number.<\/li>\n<li>The vehicle year, make, model, and color.<\/li>\n<li>The purchase price and purchase date.<\/li>\n<li>The seller\u2019s signature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must also bring the original title (no copies) and\u00a0ensure\u00a0it has been assigned to you on the back of the certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Fill out the Connecticut Registration and Title Application form (H-13B), pay the $25 fee and you will receive the new title in the mail.<\/p>\n<h3>Title Transfer If You Have Sold A Car In Connecticut<\/h3>\n<p>If you have sold a car in Connecticut, you will want the new owner to transfer the title out of your name and into theirs. Your new title will be sent to the address on file with the DMV.<\/p>\n<h3>CT Title Transfer From A\u00a0Lien Holder<\/h3>\n<p>If you have paid off a loan on your vehicle, you will not have to initiate the title transfer process. The State of Connecticut requires\u00a0lien holders\u00a0to automatically assign and mail the title to you.
