In addition to all the other things you have to do, changing your address with the state's Department of Motor Vehicles is important to make certain documents like your license and registration reflect the updated information. All states require that you update your address within a short time period after you move.
While many states offer online or mail in options for completing a request to update address information, the state of South Dakota offers their residents just as convenient an option as other states; email submissions. In the email, you need to include:
Your SD driver license or ID number
Your date of birth as it appears on your license or ID
Your full name as it appears on your license or ID
And your new and old address
send to firstname.lastname@example.org
If you prefer to update your address information in person, you can visit a your nearest Driver's License office. You are not required to obtain a duplicate copy of your license or ID, but if you would like to do so, you can pay for one in person or using their online portal. You cannot request an address change through the portal. You can only request that a duplicate license or ID be sent after the change is made.
